AUTOMATED FISH COUNTING WITH YOUR EXISTING CAMERAS

The intelligent upgrade for your system

UPGRADE YOUR EXISTING SYSTEM
TiVA Edge is a standalone AI processing unit that brings automated fish counting and species detection to your existing camera system. It’s the perfect solution if you’ve already invested in camera equipment but need to upgrade to an automated, data-driven system.

HOW IT WORKS
The Edge unit connects directly to your existing camera. It receives the video stream and applies our proprietary AI detection and tracking algorithms in real-time. The results—species, count, and direction—are then seamlessly integrated into your TIVA platform, just as if the data came from one of our own systems.

FROM MANUAL TO AUTOMATED
Even with motion detection, personnel is required to manually review hours of video and enter data into a spreadsheet. Our system automates the entire process. It continuously tracks individual fish, identifies their species, and counts them. The data is uploaded in real-time to your TIVA dashboard, saving you significant time and resources.

USE CASE 1: AUTOMATED EEL COUNTER

CHALLENGE
Traditional eel counters often require manual review, which is time-consuming. Eels move very fast, especially in steep passages, making it difficult to obtain accurate data. Additionally, poor cellular reception in remote areas can complicate the transfer of data and video.

SOLUTION
The EDGE system performs detection and tracking at 60 frames per second. It follows the eel’s entire movement, ensuring accurate tracking of each individual. To handle large amounts of data and poor reception, video clips are recorded at a lower resolution while analysis is performed on high-resolution images. All data is stored locally on the device and synchronized with the cloud when an internet connection is available.

RESULT
The system has streamlined eel counting by automating the process. The high frame rate ensures that even fast-moving eels are tracked correctly. By storing data locally, the risk of data loss in environments with poor connectivity is minimized.

USE CASE 2: AUTOMATED COUNTING WINDOW

CHALLENGE
Previous systems at the fish pass relied on manual review of video recordings, which was inefficient and required significant staff effort. It was difficult to handle large amounts of data, and individual fish could repeatedly trigger recordings, creating unnecessary data.

SOLUTION
As part of an initial one-month trial we installed our system TiVA EDGE to automate counting, individual fish tracking, and species detection. All data is continuously uploaded to a cloud platform, where the client can easily view migration data directly from their device. Our AI-driven detection reduces unnecessary recordings and focuses on relevant events.

RESULT
The client’s process has become significantly more efficient. The system delivers continuously updated data on fish migration, eliminating the need for time-consuming manual review. By automating both counting and species detection, staff can focus on analyzing the data instead of collecting it.
